Hi Lonnie,

Got your information.
However, has SKB confirmed that the sound bar + OTT product must have 2W passive standby function?

Regards,
Sean

Hi, Sean

STB must have under 2W at passive standby is regulation by Korea Energy Agency.
So, we prepare it based on current HW.
Please check it.

Hi Lonnie,

Based on the documents you provided, I agree with your suggestion. In order to meet the requirements of passive standby below 2W, the DCDC converter (24V / 5V) must be turned off during passive standby period. However, it seems that the hardware on the AMP board needs to be changed, and software fine-tuning may also be required for this change.
Anyway, before making this hardware modification, we will try to rework the PCBA and work with our software team to verify this feature, and check in advance if there are any problems.

Thanks,
Regards,
Sean

Hi Lonnie,

Update the active standby mode power consumption first.
The passive standby mode will be tested when we can enter the company.

Thank you.

Hi Lonnie,

As I know, the default standby mode is active standby for end user in SKB UI and it is able to change to passive standby by using hidden UI with special key combination. So may I know if passive standby is only needed in regulation by Korea Energy Agency and it shall under 2W and it wouldn't be used by end users ?

Hi, Jacky

Yes, you are correct.
As you know, under 2W requirement is regulation by Korea Energy Agency. So, it will be enforced within 1 or 2 years.
HW should prepare it because cannot change after mass production.
Please make S/W for implement.

Hi, Fu-chiang Young

Thank you for your report.
I have question about you report.
Did you follow below procedure ?
   Enable Audio Amp Block
       > 5V_EN : High
       > I2C Control(initialize)
    Disable Audio Amp Block
      > I2C Control(Off): Below Register OFF through I2C
         - SHDN(Shut down)
         - PWM
      > 5V_EN : Low

Hi Lonnie,

Update the passive standby mode power consumption test report.
Change rework pin from CRTL_A113X to AMP_PWM_OFF pin.
The test results seems very close to last time, 1.9641W-->1.9731W.
This test found AMP_SCL/AMP_SDA will current recharge from main board to VDDAO_3.3V of amp board.
That will cause U3 of amp board has 1.1V at output pin.

Thank you.

Hi, Fu-chiang Young

I found there is no comment about MIC block?
Regarding Mantis 0000956, MIC should enter sleep mode for 1.1968W.
How about MIC block?

Hi Lonnie,
In EVT build, the far field MIC had been built into image.
So when DUT enters passive standby mode, the far field MIC can enter sleeping mode.
That is why the report does not mention about it.

Thank you.

Hi Lonnie,
We checked the EVT to DVT3 components change, please see attached picture.
We think HDMI retiming IC contribute more power consumption and try to make it to enter standby mode.
Currently we use VS-550 SOC command to turn off HDMI block function and it works to turn off HDMI downstream to retiming IC and automatically enters standby mode.
The power consumption is around 1.5W. Please see the attached report.

Next, we will check GPIO26 to disable HDMI 5V power IC for shutdown HDMI to see if HDMI retiming IC can enter standby mode automatically too.

Thank you.

Hi, Fu-chiang Young

I think you should use I2C for entering standby mode of HDMI retimer IC.
Please discuss with SW team.

Hi Lonnie,
Update the test report wording.
I have some mis-understanding for command "test_disp hdmipwr off".
Synaptics relied this command is set SOC HDMI TMDS off.
So the power consumption from 1.97W reduce to 1.5W is due to HDMI TMDS off, not because HDMI retiming IC standby mode.
The report deletes page 7 for the HDMI retiming IC standby information.
Please see the attached file.

Thank you.

Hi, Fu-chiang Young

Thank you for your report.
I have a question about your test report.
Could you let me know which mode of VS-550 in your passive standby? Fast-standby or Suspend or Low power?

Best regards

Hi Lonnie,
The passive standby mode should be as suspend mode.
But this table seems not correct for current SOC function such as HDMI should turn off TMDS, but actually it did not as our test.

Thank you.

Hi, Lonnie

I hear that passive standby mode (<2W) is only for meet Korea requirement.
In other words, this mode is only for testing, and will not be used for customer software.
Could you confirm this ?

Thanks !

Hi Mr. Tom Lee,

Passive standby mode is Government's requirement. But it is not an obligation now. But government will ask to implement it.
So SKB and Korea Government didn't ask to implement passive standby now.
But I think they will asked it in the near future.
So we should prepare HW side from the begining of this product. But we don't need to prepare SW side right now.

Hi, Mr. Yoon, Lonnie
For passive standby mode, I found some problems.

Pin 6 (CTRL_A113X ), pin 7 and 8 (I2C bus), pin 10 and 14 (I2S bus) of J813 on AMP board are not at logic low during passive standby mode.
I can measure 1.33V at power rail "VDDAO_3.3V" and 0.93V at power rail " VCC5V". ( Unless I connect all of these pins to GND directlly.)
This situation leads to power sequence are not meet A113X requirement when turn passive standby mode to normal operating mode.
I do function test (play music) after turn passive standby mode to normal operating mode.
Total 30 times, DUT can work normally at each time.

Can ALT agree this design ?

If ALT cannot agree this, we should modify main board schematic design.
(1. VS-550's GPIO[19] (net 5V_EN) to control buffer IC (U1320) via N-MOSFET => turn off I2S buffer IC,
 2. Add I2C buffer IC => to switch on/off I2C bus connection with VS-550,
 3. Set CTRL_A113X (GPIO[32]) to logic low => software engineer should modify image).

Please note that, I also mount 330Kohm resistor on location R1 of AMP board, otherwise net 5V_EN will always at logic low when DUT power on.

Attached are some wave for you reference.
